Today was a major milestone for me.... today marked my last visit with the orthopaedic surgeon (unless of course, I start having some problems over the next little while) I remember the first few days after the surgery I couldn't comprehend how my ankle would ever feel better, much less strong enough to walk on ever again. And yet, here I am - I can go up and down the stairs now without crutches and I can go for walks with the stroller! Don't get me wrong, my ankle is by no means back to normal, but my range of motion is improving, my muscles are getting stronger and the swelling is starting to slowly subside.
But, I still can't flex my foot down and forward, which causes some problems coming down a flight of stairs and I still can't stand on one foot..... or run, but I have learned to take it one day at a time. I'm still in physiotherapy and will be for a while yet, so I'm still hopeful that I can one day regain the majority of my mobility back in that ankle.
Yes, small sucesses and one day at a time..... easy does it!
