Mommy's Midnight Song

It's no secret that Selena doesn't do nights well.....

She wakes every 2 hours like clockwork, in fact, I don't even need to set an alarm in the morning because she's so reliable....

Lately we have been trying to take a tougher approach with her at night, in the hopes that we can get more than a couple hours of straight sleep. She is the toughest on me (I think she knows I will cave in and pick her up)

Part way through the night Bryan and I trade, so that I can get some sleep. The strange thing is, the minute Selena sees her Dad coming, she goes quiet and usually falls right back to sleep.

But last night, instead of sleep, she decided to tug at my heartstrings....

Once Daddy was there, she laid down in her crib and starting saying "ma-ma-ma, mum-mum-mum" in the cutest little voice EVER. It sounded like she was singing to me and her adorable little voice, soft and sweet, in the middle of the night had me wanting to rush right in and pick her up!

I resisted the urge, but boy was it hard and I'm so thankful for my husband who reassuringly placed his hand on me, knowing how hard it must be to listen to that and not feel TOTALLY guilty, especially when her singing carried on for a good 5 minutes or more (which felt like a lifetime)

It's these times that are so touching (and yet so difficult) to me as a mother...

Tammy, even though I did not have a baby myself, your description of having to resist going to Selena calling you touched me! You are a wonderful and beautiful mother! L.
